Downloads and exe launchs blocked by Avast

DarthKaal Hi there!
First, I'd like to thank you, I was looking for this kind of way of launching Amiga games instantly without using emulators. Great work here! My only wish that is not yet fullfilled would be a Mac OS X version.

Anyway, it seems that it has already been discussed, but for most of the games (one of them is Speedball II), when I download them, the download stops just before the end with a "network error" message. I had already downloaded Speedball II from my Mac partition, but copying it to my Windows 7 hard drive instantly deletes it...
It's interesting to see that Avast doesn't say anything at all, but...

...I then tried without Avast being active, and everything works fine.

So, what do I do now? Is there an easy solution to that situation?

Re: Downloads and exe launchs blocked by Avast

Hello. Welcome to forum. The best solution if forgot about avast and use ESET :) But if you still must use it that piece of crap called "antivirus" without reason. You must search some possibility to add our execs to trusted. I do not know avast so maybe some other users can help you with that. And remember, execs downloaded from our site never have any malware code and they are not danger for your OS. Sorry for my bad English.

Re: Downloads and exe launchs blocked by Avast

@DarthKaal - could you send example problematic exe name?
Maybe you are using v2.5 version.
This is problematic generation :)
Try any v2.6 exe.

Re: Downloads and exe launchs blocked by Avast

It seems that, indeed, most of the games that have problems with Avast are 2.5 versions like Speedball 2 and Flashback.

Anyway, I will not defend Avast, but I've never had this kind of behavior before. Avast is not even telling me "watch out, could be malware!" (or something like that), that it normally do in such cases, and I really don't understand why.
As for ESET, the truth is I have a Mac and use my Bootcamp Windows 7 just to play PC games and I have no intention of paying for an antivirus.

At the end, disabling Avast each time I want to download and/or launch a game (there must be some way to allow them directly) is a bit tedious...

For the good side: you did a great job with those games! At first I was a bit worried by seeing all the games launching automatically in widescreen with a messed-up aspect ratio, but I've been able to set the games to look exactly how I wanted with the F12 configuration (I like my old games with good old blocky pixels ^^).

Re: Downloads and exe launchs blocked by Avast

in v2.6 scalex2 filter is default disabled.
BTW

This feature is for you:

Code: Select all

Local settings
Demonic Window checks for a file 'settings.cfg' in the same location as the EXE. You can use this feature to define your settings for many EXEs!
More at: http://thecompany.pl/guide

Code: Select all

that it normally do in such cases, and I really don't understand why.

v2.5 - this generation is packed/crypted by "custom" packers
v2.6 - this generation is packed/crypted by "white-list" packers :)
